The meaning of life...

"What is the meaning of life?"

Every individual with at least half a grain of lucid thought and self-awareness has pondered upon this enquiry since recorded history began. Often called 'The Ultimate Question', I find that the answer is incredibly simple, but not satisfactory enough for most.

The meaning of life is to find a meaning in life. It is a subjective experience that cannot be generally defined. Each individual life is filled with unique experiences, beliefs, and values.  Should not the reasons for these lives be just as varied? Or, is there some deep-seated human condition which craves absolute purpose and direction? Life is not black and white, there are a number of meanings one could find.

It seems childish to desire a single, predetermined answer to ones existence when existence itself is incredibly vague and ambiguous.

We're here. We are. Those are the important parts. Our lives revolve  around those simple facts. Why we are here and what happens after we leave can't be given irrefutable answers, therefore they should be taken lightly and without much emotional investment if one wishes to maintain a happy, sane existence.

It does not matter if you are religious, it does not matter if you're irreligious, what matters in this brief stint is being happy. Who are we to tell the Christian there is no God if that brings him joy? Who are we to chastise the addicts, the hedonists, the idiots, the naive, and the gullible? If they, in all their strife, manage to maintain a happier overall existence than us, what is the point? What have we really gained in our prejudiced thought and actions? We are all going to die and no one can tell you where we will go, does it not seem reasonable that we take the utmost effort in enjoying life, instead of wallowing in uncertainty and jaded disillusionment?

This is the only sure shot we know we have. Make the most of it.
